Digital Transform MedEd is a series of bi-monthly workshops and symposia led by our colleagues at Imperial College London and LKCMedicine.

Artificial intelligence in medical education: a practical guide
- 90 minute workshop led by Dr Paul Gagnon, Dr Smriti Pathak and Dr Preman Rajalingam

This workshop is designed to enable participants to:
- Identify key elements specific to understanding artificial intelligence in medical education
- Describe an approach to designing AI enabled learning and assessment activities
​- Outline common strategies and challenges when planning and evaluating AI projects.

About the presenters:
Paul Gagnon is the retired, Founding Director of E-Learning and Instructional Systems and Services at LKCMedicine, where he pioneered the integration of E-Learning Systems to support a blended learning pedagogy. Included in this portfolio is the rollout of what he has termed: ‘The LKCMedicine Learning DNA’: the alignment of the strands of technology and curriculum via a Team Based learning pedagogy, supported by his ‘TERASA’ eLearning Design Framework. Currently, he is CEO of his own company, 1WG Consultancy and Training Services, where he and his associates focus on Digital Transformation and Innovation, especially as they relate to the alignment of Emerging Technologies like AI and Learner Engagement. 
 
Preman Rajalingam is the Head of the Teaching, Learning and Pedagogy Division (TLPD) at NTU and concurrently Senior Lecturer of Medical Education at LKCMedicine. Preman joined NTU in 2012 as one of the pioneer staff members at LKCMedicine where he took on various faculty and management positions culminating in the role of Assistant Dean, Educational Development before taking on his current role in 2020. His many roles in higher education include that of teacher, faculty developer and scholar. He received his Ph.D. is in Education Psychology from Monash University, Australia in 2011. His current research interests include the science of learning underpinning active-collaborative approaches and the evolving roles of teachers in higher education. 
 
Smriti Pathak is an Infectious Disease Consultant who has worked at both LKCMedicine and Imperial College, London. Her interests in travel medicine and technologies that advance healthcare and education led to her appointment as an integral member of the LKCMedicine team that designed, developed and evaluated a prototype AI medical school tutor.
